Speaking Wisely, Listening Deeply: A 2-Day Nonresidential Retreat
“A statement endowed with five factors is well-spoken, not ill-spoken. It is blameless and unfaulted by knowledgeable people. It is spoken in truth. It is spoken affectionately. It is spoken beneficially. It is spoken with a mind of good-will.” —The Buddha
When: Saturday, February 28, from 9:30 am – 4:30pm; Sunday, March 1, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm; plus an introductory talk on Friday, February 27, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm*
Description: Our ability to speak wisely is based on our ability to listen fully to ourselves and others. When we take time to look carefully at how we behave toward others, we can see how our words and actions create both workable and un-workable relationships. Mindfulness in relationship to others is a process-oriented way of living with a willingness to engage our life just as it is. Speaking mindfully means that we choose how, when, and where to express ourselves with consideration for ourselves and others.
This 2-day nonresidential retreat will consist of noble silence with meditation and periods of interactive exercises with speaking, listening, Dharma talks, and group discussion.
*Friday night, February 27, will be an introduction to the retreat open to the public. It will consist of meditation, a short Dharma talk, and Q&A. There is a $5 fee for TCMC and Dana for the teacher. Registrants who wish to come to this talk can participate for no extra cost.
Where: TCMC, 1231 E. Edison, Tucson. It is important to the future of TCMC to observe mindful parking by not parking on the same block as the Center and by leaving an empty parking space in front of the homes on the neighboring blocks.
